The Two Dogs With the Same Name

Anders walks dogs for a living. He has five years of experience with the job.

Malik is new to dog walking. Today is only his second week on the job.

Both men work for the same company. Today, they meet at the park by accident.

Anders has a small brown dog named Pepper. Malik also has a small brown dog. Hers is named Pepper too.

"Wait, is your dog named Pepper?" Anders asks. "Mine is too, and they look almost the same."

Malik checks his paper. "Yes, Pepper, from apartment 4B," he says. Anders checks his own paper. "My Pepper is from apartment 4D."

They look at both dogs closely. One has a small white spot on her ear. The other does not.

"This one is 4B's Pepper," Anders says. "See the mark on her ear?"

Malik relaxes and laughs. "I almost took the wrong dog home," he says. "Thank you for checking."

"It happens to everyone at first," Anders says. "Here's a tip: check the collar tag every single time."

Malik nods and looks at both collars. "4B and 4D," he reads out loud. "Got it."

They walk the correct dogs back to their owners. Both men laugh about the mix-up on the way.
