The Video Call Filter Glitch

Stefan's video-call background filter freezes his face into a strange smile during an important client presentation, and he has to handle it live.
Stefan works from home three days a week. He always turns on the video app's "tidy background" filter before important calls. His home office is really just a corner of the living room. The filter blurs the laundry basket and the drying rack behind him into a soft gray smudge.
Today, he has a call with a new client. His company has been trying to sign this client for months. Stefan puts on a clean shirt and checks his lighting. He joins the meeting two minutes early, feeling reasonably confident.
Halfway through his presentation, while he's explaining the project timeline, the filter glitches. For three full seconds, it freezes his face mid-blink. He is left with an oddly wide, cartoonish smile. His real voice keeps talking normally underneath.
Nobody says anything at first. Stefan doesn't notice, since he can't see his own frozen expression. He only realizes something is wrong when his coworker Katarina messages him privately. She is also on the call. "Your video froze on a strange smile," she writes. "Might want to check your camera."
Stefan glances at the small preview of himself in the corner. The filter has finally caught up, showing his actual face again. He isn't sure how much of the timeline explanation the client watched with his face stuck like that.
At the end of the call, instead of ignoring it, Stefan decides to mention it directly. "I should say, my video filter glitched a minute ago," he says, half laughing. "If my face looked strange, that's why. I promise I wasn't actually that excited about the budget numbers."
The client laughs, more warmly than Stefan expected. She says her own software freezes constantly during rainy weather. The awkward moment turns into an easy joke between them. It isn't something either of them quietly worries about later.
After the call, Stefan turns the filter off completely and tidies the actual room instead. It takes him four minutes. It never once freezes his face at the worst possible moment.
